Number 93 at Diagon Alley was one of Calysta’s favourite places to be. On certain days, it topped the public library and the Leaky Cauldron too. And it definitely topped her tedious job at the Ministry. All that included was going through papers and arranging shelves, with an occasional chance of visiting somebody. Somebody; a person; human interaction. She needed a lot more of that than her job would let her have. But Number 93 was her place—not in the sense that she owned it, of course—but a place that soothed her.
It was a shop full of practical joke objects; Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes, with a few products for daily use thrown in the midst. Mostly filled with kids and teenagers, Calysta surely looked like an anomaly as she perused the shelves. Well, there were a few adults around who were accompanying their children, but they seemed largely uninterested in the hustle and bustle. Calysta, on the other hand, was going around and experimenting with everything; reading labels and flipping things open. Very serious business—shopping for prank-products, you know?
Anti-gravity hats, said the label on the shelf carrying a variety of hats. An attached card claimed that it was charmed to make the wearer float. “Looks fun,” the famed connoisseur of hats murmured, as she picked up one that matched her outfit and slapped it on her head. She waited patiently for a few seconds, but to no avail. She checked it for holes or tears, dusted it, and then put it on again. Still nothing. Her next guess was that she had to give it some form of a signal. So she hopped like a fool, only to fail yet again.
It wasn’t a complete disappointment though since some kid was watching her and giggling from a little distance. Calysta turned her attention to him and put on a more animated hopping routine for his entertainment; almost a dance. He watched for a few seconds and then ran away. Perhaps scared of the sudden attention from the weird woman. She also felt the presence of someone behind her, and turned around to face them with a last, graceful, hop, “I’m a bit kooky, obviously.”
With no shame to speak of.
