My Second Year Begins.
My Second Year Begins.
"Ready when you are!" Brix Garrison called up the stairs, as he glanced down at his wrist-watch in anticipation.
Today he would be returning to Hogwarts, ready and fresh to start his Second Year at the most historic and noble school. His Summer had been a rather uneventful one; with the only drastic change coming in the growth spurt he had undertaken. Brix had always been notoriously skinny, but now with the extra height, he was truly lanky in every sense of the word. He had grown so much, in fact, that he nearly passed his Father in height, which was no mean feat.
Brix had managed to meet up with Dominic several times over the holiday period. It turns out he had relatives in London, which meant he could very easily make his way over to Brix's house for sleepovers where they would watch television and read comics until early hours of the morning. Brix and Dominic's other friends, however, were much more difficult to reach. Diona's family would probably have a fit if they knew she wanted to visit the home of a muggle doctor, so the only correspondence the pair shared were through very secretive owls. Jacqueline Hendricks, whom Brix had a giant crush on, also happened to be difficult to reach. On several occasions, Brix had received owls from her brothers Colton and Maddox, telling Brix to stop being "such a monumental git" and a "no good prat" amongst other things. Jacqueline apologised on their behalf, defending them by saying they are just protective of her.
Regardless, this didn't matter at all. After three long months away, the young group of Hufflepuffs would all be reunited once more today as they headed back to Hogwarts for their second year. Brix eagerly awaited his parents to get dressed, as they would be driving him in to Kings Cross station to send him on his merry way. Eventually, and after Brix basically begging them to hurry, the Garrisons packed their way into the family car, and made their way to the station.
The journey was less eventful than Brix's first trip to King's Cross, as Ludovic had already gone to school and JJ was at daycare. It was less of a big deal, he supposed, as they had already been through the process before, and his parents had agreed it wasn't exactly worth Ludo missing another day of school. Brix had tried to petition for Ludo to come, seeing as he would be on his way to Hogwarts next year, but his parents had ultimately decided against it.
Brix hugged both of his parents as they waved him goodbye, opting not to make their way onto the platform with Brix as his Dad had said "He didn't trust running into brick walls that much". The young boy laughed, accepting that some things were difficult for Muggles to understand completely, as he bid both of his parents a sincere farewell. The young boy then turned towards the brick wall in front of him, gathered his long legs into a run, and made his way onto the platform.
"Brix! My word, you've grown!"
He turned his head around to meet the face of Diona Aronwen, who, for the first time, Brix had taken notice of as being extremely attractive. Was it something to do with the hormones of a developing boy, or was it simply the fact that, like Brix, Diona had grown as well? Whatever the reasoning, there was no denying just how attractive Diona Aronwen suddenly appeared to the boy; did absence truly make the heart grow fonder?
"Diona! Hi! You've grow--you are-- um, it's good to see you!" Brix ultimately decided, smiling at his friend and embracing her in a hug.
"Still as smooth as ever, I see. Come on, lets see if we can find Jackie and Dominic," she laughed, as Brix followed her onto the train.
After searching the length of the train, Diona and Brix eventually found Dominc and Jacqueline in one of the last compartments, eagerly chatting away, no doubt catching up on what they had gotten up to on the holidays. Yet when Brix stepped through the door, he was immediately caught off-guard by Jacqueline. She too, like Diona, had somehow grown more attractive and beautiful. Her eyes had seemingly gotten greener; her smile somehow more infatuating. Brix tried not to stare.
"Well, you've been eating your vegetables this summer, young man," she grinned, noticing Brix almost have to duck his head to make his way into the compartment.
"Yeah, I guess we have Jacqueline and the giant bean-stalk now!" Dominic added, as he and Brix laughed along (Diona and Jacqueline looked confused).
The train-ride to Hogwarts was always one of the favourite parts of the Hogwarts Experience for Brix. There was a certain beauty in leaving the hustle and bustle of London behind and slowly watch the scenery around you change from urban living to beautiful spanning countryside. It was here he felt the most at home, more so than any other place in the world.
Upon arrival, however, Brix knew one thing would be different straight away. The boat rides across the Black Lake were reserved for first-year students only, with the rest of the students being taken up the castle in carriages that seemed to pull themselves. Curiously, the four Hufflepuffs made their way into the carriage, as it gently made its way up to the castle for the Sorting Ceremony and start of term feast.
Brix led the group towards the Hufflepuff table within the Great Hall, as the four took their respective seats, relishing the fact that they were no longer the rookies of the house, and as such, they avoided much of the dirty work such as cleaning the Common Room or challenging the House Elvess to duels simply for the food they made.
"Welcome back students, welcome back!" the booming voice of Headmaster Cobblesworth bellowed over the growing noise of the Great Hall.
"Before you all shove your gobs full of food, we have some very important things to get through! Such as the Sorting Ceremony! So sit back and enjoy as you begin to meet your new housemates!"
Brix turned away from the Sorting Ceremony at first to further his talks with Diona, Jacqueline and Dominic. It had been so long since he had seen all of them in person that he wished to soak up every opportunity he could to talk to them. The only time he seemingly stopped listening to the group was when the Great Hall erupted in a chorus of applause when one particular black-haired student actually attempted to give a fist-bump to Professor Cobblesworth after being sorted.
"Whatcha talking bout?" said a voice, as Brix turned his head towards the source of the noise.
Brix, in turn, fell off his seat backwards. The source of the noise was the same black-haired boy who attempted to become all friendly with the Headmaster; he just so happened to sit so close to him that when Brix turned his head, the pair essentially nearly kissed.
"Ioan Kale's the name! Nice to see you've already fallen for me, mate!" he added, as he helped Brix back to his seat.
"Nice to meet you, Ioan. I'm Brix; and this is Diona, Jackie and Dominic," Brix replied, as he looked around at his friends, almost as if to say "please save me from this absolute nutter".
Brix turned back away from Ioan, who had begun talking to another new Hufflepuff girl who had long brown hair. He was certainly an energetic young man, who seemingly had no shame whatsoever. It was almost as if embarrassment didn't apply to Ioan Kale; that he was somehow exempt from the concept all-together. This was further supported when he jumped to his feet and began to cat-call when Kourtney Oliver was also sorted into Hufflepuff.
The young boy's attention was again diverted by the sensation of somebody touching the top of his head. Bewildered, Brix looked around, and was shocked to see Ioan Kale had moved from next to him, to behind him, and was now resting his chin on Brix's head.
"Whatcha eating there buuuuuddddy?" the boy asked, wiggling his eyebrows as he talked.
"Just some chicke--wait, why am I even answering? You can plainly see!" Brix replied, his temper rising.
Dominic and Jacqueline sat back, both absolutely loving what was unfolding before them. Diona, on the other hand, looked quite perplexed at the young boy and what he was doing to Brix. He was glad somebody shared his sentiments.
"Delicious!" Ioan grinned, taking a bite out of the leg on Brix's plate.
"Anyway! Brix, I want you to meet Kourtney Oliver, but everybody calls him Oliver, apparently. We met on the train," he added, motioning to a boy beside him.
A young boy poked his head around the corner, offering Brix a warm smile. The poor boy, he thought to himself, having to be subjected to Ioan Kale for an entire train ride, and now, no doubt, having to share his dormitory with him.
"You have giraffe-ish tendencies, Brix!" Kourtney Oliver spoke, as Dominic and Jacqueline nearly keeled over from laughter.
"Thanks?" Brix replied, not knowing whether to laugh at the boy's brutal honesty (he knew he had a slender neck, but giraffe-ish?!) or to be insulted.
As the night progressed, Brix began to take a liking to the heavily outspoken Ioan Kale and Kourtney Oliver. They were complete polar opposites to one another in nearly all aspects and mannerisms, but in a way, this afforded the perfect balance between the trio. In fact, he spent the majority of the evening talking to the pair about all kinds of uses for sticking charms, something the two seemed curiously interested in. Whatever the reason, Brix was happy to pass on his knowledge.
As the night rolled on, the excited faces of the students soon turned to looks of exhaustion. Brix himself, with his stomach full, was feeling exceptionally sleepy and longed for the Hufflepuff Common Room; its earthy aroma was always welcoming to his senses.
"I'm sure I will be seeing a lot of you two," Brix smiled at Kale and Oliver, as he got to his feet with the rest of the older students.
"I'll make sure of that!" Kale replied, winking and blowing Brix a kiss.
Brix looked perplexed at the boy once more, who burst into laughter along with Oliver.
I didn't think you'd actually blow him a kiss! Amazing! You win the bet!
I must be pretty seductive, see the look on Brix's face?
He heard Ioan and Kourtney continue to talk in the background as he walked out of the hall towards the Hufflepuff Common Room. He let a quick smile play on his features as he did so, happy to make two new..well, he wasn't sure what Ioan Kale and Kourtney Oliver were to him yet, but he had a feeling they would cause him more bad than good.
